All action drama brings Madsen to Suffolk

Two-time European Championships medallist Anna Thea Madsen insists it is the quickfire 'first to nine' scoring that is attracting Europe's badminton stars to the AJ Bell National Badminton after signing for new side Suffolk Saxons.

The quirky 21 year old, who won European silver in 2014 and bronze in 2016, becomes the fourth Dane to join the league for Season 3.

“I've been watching the NBL and following if from Denmark since it started” Madsen told us whilst attending a Pre-Rio training camp in Birmingham.

“It's a different game, different scoring system and different league to the Danish one. The fast, short games along with the PowerPlay scenario - that's what makes it so exciting. When I got contacted by the Saxons I saw it as an opportunity to try something new with a new team as well. I'm looking forward to being part of the team.”

Madsen heads to Suffolk with first class team experience having been part of the profilic Vaerlose Danish league team in her home town of Copenhagen as well as the all conquering Danish team at the European Mixed Team Championship winning.

She is expected to make her Saxons debut when the NBL's newest team travel to face reigning champions Birmingham Lions on Match-Week 1 (17 October) and is also looking forward to getting stuck into the drama.

“I can't wait to get the season started and hopefully help guide the Saxons to winning ways" she added.
