Chris Langridge aims to push Surrey Smashers back to summit

A day afterlifting the men's doubles title at the English National Championships, ChrisLangridge will aim to push struggling Surrey Smashers into a Play-Off spot whenthe AJ Bell National Badminton League resumes tonight.

Match-night5 – the penultimate round of fixtures before Finals day in Birmingham – willsee all six franchises sides in action as another evening of high-intensitybadminton takes place.

AndLangridge knows how important it is that Surrey Smashers produce the kind ofform which saw the Guildford franchise race into last season's Play-Offs as theleading team.

“The seasonhasn't quite gone to plan so far but two more matches and it's everything to playfor,” said the doubles specialist, who won the national title with Marcus Ellis on Sunday and will partner Tom Wolfenden tonight in the men's doubles.

“It has beendisappointing. Unfortunately we haven't had a night yet for Surrey Smasherswhere we've had a full team available.”

Tonight,Surrey Smashers travel to University of Nottingham and on paper look to have astrong-looking squad available, with the inclusion of Gabby Adcock, Rob Blair,as well as Sophie Brown and Emily Westwood in the doubles.

“Last yearwhen we played the University of Nottingham, unfortunately we did lose,” addedLangridge. “It was possibly one of our hardest matches during the season.

“We playedaway and their crowd is quite impressive. They played really well on the nightand things didn't quite go our way. Hopefully this time wecan get a good result.”

SurreySmashers currently languish second bottom with six points. However, they areonly one point behind champions Team Derby in the quest to secure that all-important Play-Offberth. There is much at stake tonight.
