Langridge: Nottingham are Surrey's bogey team

University of Nottingham Badminton are fast becomingSurrey Smashers' bogey team.

That was the assessment of a frustrated Chris Langridgefollowing Monday's AJ Bell National Badminton League defeat in Nottingham forhis Smashers side.

The Smashers' only loss in the regular league last seasonwas a 4-1 away defeat in Nottingham and history repeated itself by thescoreline on match-night 5 – a result that leaves last season's in form sidestruggling to make the end of season play-offs.

Surrey's form this season has been patchy following amixture of injuries, late withdrawals and new partnerships. However head coachDean George was able to call upon all of his big name players for Monday butstill saw his side come up short.

Langridge said “Its the first time that we've been ableto get a full team out and Nottingham always seem to be our bogey team.

“Theway that their team matches up against ours makes it very difficult, they'restrong in areas where we're strong.

“It'sgoing to be tough to qualify now but we've got Birmingham Lions in the lastgame and last year we beat them 4-1 so we'll need another big game then.”

Langridgepaired Tom Wolfenden to a straight forward 3-0 win in the triumph at home toBirmingham Lions on the last match-night of last season. This time aroundLangridge knows his side may have to rely on results elsewhere to ensure a shotat the title on Finals Day.

Itall makes for extra drama when match-night 6 comes around in March.
