Poulsen signs up for Season 3 with defending champions

Denmark's Mette Poulsen has joined the Birmingham Lions for Season 3 of the AJ Bell National Badminton League.

The 23-year-old, from Naestved, is currently at a career-high singles world ranking of 57, and joins the reigning champions ahead of their title defence.

Poulson is a singles specialist but has played women's doubles on the international circuit, including winning the 2011 European Junior Championships, so can be drafted into action if needed.

The Dane, who made her international debut at the 2008 Norwegian International, will compete with Fontaine Chapman for the Lions' singles position, with the English number one having won five of her seven fixtures in Season 2.

Poulsen was first capped by Denmark in July 2010, and becomes the third Dane to sign up for the AJ Bell NBL Season 3, joining Anna Madsen of the Suffolk Saxons and Surrey Smashers ' Line Kjaersfeldt.

And Poulsen, 11 times a youth national champion, is no stranger to team competition, having competed in the European Mixed Team competition for Denmark.

Birmingham Lions begin their AJ Bell NBL season with a home tie against Suffolk Saxons, on Monday, October 17.
