Surrey Smashers can go a step further, says Gabby Adcock
Gabby Adcock believes Surrey Smashers can “go astep further” after missing out on the chance of winning the inaugural NationalBadminton League (NBL) title.
The Smashers were favourites to win Finals Dayin June after losing only one of their five Monday match-nights on the way to the play-offs, but lost their play-off at the K2 in Crawley .
Surrey Smashers will start their campaign in frontof the Sky Sports cameras on 2 November against MK Badminton.
“Obviously we were top of the table which was agreat achievement, but then we had a pretty big disappointment by not winningour play-off.
“The team gave it everything but I think we've gotanother really good chance to do something similar and go a step further.”
Adcock says that the Smashers' wealth of experienceon the big stage and the ability to enjoy the moment of the upcoming manic Mondays shouldcontinue to serve the Guildford-based franchise well in the second season ofNBL excitement.
“Experience definitely helps in the NBL becauseit's such high pressure,” she said. “It's still quite strange for us, becauseit's so short. It takes me a second to remember we are playing to nine andwe've got to be really on it.
“Hopefully we'll be a bit more on it this year. It'sreally good fun to be part of a team. We had such a laugh at Surrey Smasherslast year and I think that's really important, because you've got to bond as ateam, but it's great to be able to compete like that.”
Added to that, Surrey Smashers are expected toenjoy more packed crowds at Surrey Sports Park for their home encounters.
“It really gets the adrenalin going and spurs youon to perform for the team,” Adcock added of the atmosphere.
